How does Habitat for Humanity homeownership work?

How does Habitat for Humanity homeownership work?

Individuals and families in need of safe, stable, and affordable housing can apply to partner with their local Habitat for Humanity.

Each applicant is reviewed based on three key criteria:

Need for better housing
Willingness to partner with Habitat through sweat equity and participation in educational workshops
Ability to repay an affordable mortgage
Habitat homeowners invest hundreds of hours helping build their own homes and the homes of others, while also participating in financial education to prepare for long-term success.

We welcome people from all backgrounds and life experiences. Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory homebuyer selection process—race, religion, gender, and family structure are never factors in our decisions.

Together, we build more than homes. We build opportunity, stability, and community—side by side.
