Financial Education

Preparing families and individuals for homeownership

At Habitat, we believe that financial education is critical to successful long-term homeownership and to building intergenerational wealth and improving health and education outcomes for families.

That’s why Habitat prioritizes helping families learn how to budget and save, preparing them to manage an affordable mortgage as homeowners.

These classes are an important part of preparing for successful long-term homeownership. Whether you're a first-time homebuyer or already have experience managing your finances, the program provides practical tools and guidance to help you achieve your homeownership goals.

Why is financial education important for future homeowners?

Financial education helps individuals and families develop the skills needed to manage money, build savings, improve credit, and achieve long-term financial stability. For many first-time homebuyers, financial education provides a strong foundation for successful homeownership.

At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that knowledge is a key part of building strength, stability, and self-reliance. Financial education helps future homeowners make informed decisions, prepare for unexpected expenses, and work toward their long-term financial goals.

Can I apply for a Habitat home without completing homebuyer education?

Yes. You do not need to complete homebuyer education before applying. Habitat's required homebuyer education program begins after you have been accepted into the homeownership program and helps prepare future homeowners for long-term success through training on budgeting, credit, saving, and mortgages.
